The goods and services available to us, as
consumers, are becoming increasingly diversified due to
the remarkable progress in scientific and informational
technologies as well as the rapid movement toward internationalization.
As a result, life as a consumer is becoming ever more complex
and challenging, especially for the elderly whose proportion
of the total population is swiftly increasing.
Saitama Prefectural Center for Consumer Affairs offers prefectural
residents comprehensive support in order to help them to
become wiser and more effective consumers. The Center provides
information and opportunities to learn about various problems
encountered by consumers including troubles surrounding
consumer products and contracts. The Center also tests consumer
products and provides counseling services.
In addition to exhibitions, which make learning about consumerism
fun and easy, the Center is fully equipped with a library
and information corner as well as practical training rooms,
study rooms, "Study and Exchange" rooms, and a
presentation corner. |

Lately, consumers protection has become
an increasingly important issue facing governmental administrations
with growing concerns over the safety of food products
and the rise in the number of incidents of troubles that
result from unethical business practices.
In order to provide full support for consumers in this
precarious environment, Saitama opened the Saitama Prefectural
Center for Consumer Affairs (nicknamed, "Sai-no-Kuni
Kurashi Plaza") in February of 2003.
"Sai-no-Kuni Kurashi Plaza" was built as the
core facility for assisting consumers within the prefecture.
Moreover, it will offer information,counseling services
and testing of consumer products.
We sincerly hope that prefectual residents use "Sai-no-Kuni
Kurashi Plaza" in order to deepen the knowledge about
our life, in order not to be involved in the troubles
that result from unethical business practices.

to offer interactive displays, dissemination of information,
and educational seminars in the field of consumerism. |

The Center maintains a library and an
information corner and issues an electronic magazine
via the Internet and newsletters concerning consumer
affairs. |

This facility is equipped with "Study
and Exchange" rooms and a presentation corner
that are open to the public and supports the activities
and networking of groups and organizations involved
in consumer affairs. |

| Consumer Affairs Counseling |

Consumers who have run into trouble can
register their complaints and receive counseling and
advice on how to best resolve the situation here at
the Center. |

| Product Testing |
|
The Center houses equipment used to perform
various tests on consumer products including ones
investigating consumer complaints. The Center also
performs tests to determine the causes of breakdowns
of consumer products and/or accidents in connection
with the same. |
